The Peculiarities of a 6-year-old Childs Upbringing
There are some peculiarities of raising 6-year-old children, in terms of their general pre-school growing-up . Actually, this is a transitional stage for the child, characterized by preparation for school and active mental growth. As for the child’s emotional development and self-esteem awareness, he or she is simply trying to understand many abstract things at the age of 6. Thus, the natural curiosity helps a child cope with the growing pressure from these processes.
The Education of a 6-year-old Child Should Be Relaxed
In preparing the child for future school activities, he or she should be taught the basics of writing, reading, and mathematics. Many children already know the alphabet and can count to more than 20. However, this is an initial knowledge gained from games. In order to succeed in elementary school, it is necessary to obtain systematic knowledge every day, as well as follow the recommendations and requests of teachers. However, the 6-year-old child has a difficult time focusing on the subject for more than 10 minutes. Therefore, the key thing is to consider this peculiarity when dealing with a child. Usually, the focus of the kindergarten or pre-school class is to help the child concentrate back and force between different activities.
If the Child Does Not Want to Prepare for School
Some children cannot focus on the lesson for more than 2 min. Additionally, they are bored with the tasks given by the teacher. In fact, they become very restlessness and quickly lose interest in anything. Finally, their actions go beyond the control of adults. What should parents do in this case? Perhaps the child has a lack of attention or hyperactivity syndrome or both of these mental disorders at the same time? The signs of these syndromes are:
- Increased inattention;
- Impulsive actions.
By the way, only a child psychologist or psychiatrist is able to determine whether a child has the above mental changes. But if you notice that your child:
- Is very inattentive or cannot concentrate on any class;
- actively moves his hands and feet all the time, even while sitting;
- shows increased impulsivity and does not stand any restrictions from equals in age or adults;
- these are the very signals that require parents to consult a specialist. The sooner you do this, the greater the positive effect you‘ll have in the future.
Discipline of a 6-year-old Child, or How to Teach the Child to Follow the Rules
It’s necessary to start teaching from early infancy. First of all, you should show this by your own example of discipline and order. However, those children who showed themselves disciplined at an early age may refuse to cooperate in the pre-school years. Excessive pressure from parents and strict behavioral rules can cause the opposite effect. The child is unconsciously trying to escape all the strict limiting beliefs; therefore, he or she may behave radically opposite to the expectations of his parents.
A Few Rules to Discipline the Child
Be consistent and uncompromising in your rules
The child should know exactly what he can do and do not. That is why you must have clear rules and always follow them yourself. Explain why you forbid doing this or that, and tell them about the consequences of all actions. Do not allow any dual situations: a parent today is in a good mood or very tired, so he allows his child to do what he wants. Also, do not overdo it with the number of prohibitions.
Give more freedom and independence
Children need to feel their importance. In order to feel this, they need to have their own affairs and responsibilities. It is necessary for them to continuously improve their self-esteem, as well as do business and duties on their own.
Teach how to make their own decisions, having thought over them
At this age, the child is already able to build a causal link. Try to make your child come to the correct conclusion and solution him or herself, guiding him or her correctly.
Communicate with your child as much as possible. This is a must not only at 6, but all the time.
The more you communicate with your child, the better you understand him or her and the easier you can guide him or her in difficult situations.
