10 Commandments of Effective Parenting Development 2-year-old
Your baby is already 2 years old. He tends to be independent. He tries to imitate you in everything. Probably, your child is already talking with you using separate words and short phrases. Often your baby's language is completely incomprehensible for other people, but you already understand everything he wants to tell you. A 2-year old child is very well emotionally developed.
He already knows what he wants, his thoughts have become more concentrated and that is why grudges and hysterias constantly alternate with bursts of positive emotions. Sometimes it seems to you that it is very difficult to cope with your child and that their behavior is absolutely unacceptable. Here comes the moment, when everything changes and your baby starts listening to you with deep interest and absorbs everything you tell him like a sponge.
1. Communicate with your child as much as possible.
First, communication with a child implies studying his parent’s language. That is why, the more you talk with your child, the more literate he becomes. At the age of two a child already understands the majority of words well. That is why if he does something wrong, you must not shout at him. Try to explain to your child why his mother and father do not want him to do that. Let your child be involved in dialogues. That will greatly help you in the future.
2. Encourage outdoor games.
Second at this age your baby is intuitively very active. Different children are active in different ways. Very often they may crash all around them. The task of the parents is to channel this irrepressible energy. Try to keep your child busy with outdoor games. Playing ball is very good for child development. It develops dexterity and accuracy. This is the age kids like to play tag and hide-and-seek. Children gymnastics, dancing and many other mobile activities will help entertain and develop your child .
3. Teach your children to play with other kids.
Starting from the age of 2 the child gradually turns from an observer into the active participant of different common games with other children. He actively plays games with older children as well. At this stage parents must help their baby become a part of the team. Encourage his good behavior with other children and be ready to protect him from their aggressive behavior. Don't think that children will sort out conflict situations by themselves.
4. Enlarge your child's vocabulary.
Your child already understands many words, though it is possible that he may not be able to pronounce all of them. But you must always enlarge his vocabulary. If you are walking with your child and see a new interesting object, you may tell your child about it. Name the object a couple of times and describe it using simple words which are already familiar to your child. Therefore, day by day your child will collect more and more information about the surrounding world.
5. Introduce your child to music.
Of course, your child is already acquainted with music. He hears it often. At this age children are very receptive to new sounds, their pitch and duration. That is why a famous Japanese violinist and teacher Shinichi Suzuki has developed his own training methodology. His conception is based on the fact that children may be taught music the same way they are taught language. It means that a child listens to his parents and imitates them, repeating what he has heard many times. The same children's abilities were used for teaching to play musical instruments and learning music literacy. That is why the age of 2 is perfect for starting music education. Let your kids listen to musical pieces and separate notes. They will remember the basis of music literacy by constant repeating.
6. Count objects with your child.
Try to count everything you see with your child: toys, trees, houses, cars, etc. Show your child pictures with different or the same objects and count them together. That will further develope your child's mathematical abilities.
7. Teach your child colors.
When you are talking with your child, always show him the colors of objects in order to develop his visual perception.
8. Bring your child's attention to defining objects.
At this age a child is already able to define objects: whether they are big or small, hot or cold, dark or light, wooden, iron, etc. That is why when describing a new object define its characteristics as well.
9. Suppress aggressive behavior towards other children and adults.
Your child's aggressive behavior is unacceptable. That is why the task of the parents is to suppress it. It is necessary to explain to your child that he must not do that sort of thing. You must never laugh or encourage your child's aggressive behavior. It may seem funny now, but later it will cause many troubles.
10. Show your child how much you love him.
Your child needs your love and care. Despite his first attempts to become independent, he still remains your wonderful and dear baby. So hug him more and tell how deeply you love him.
